Leona Bateman is a down-home, strong-willed woman. She is a business owner, homeschooler, humanitarian, marketing director, and the founder of the Creekers Foundation. She is passionate and loves to be in the service of those she loves. She loves sharing and growing.
She was born and raised in the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints (FLDS) Mormon Church. She married at the young age of 16 to her husband of 17, and together they raised a large family. After leaving the FLDS church in 2013 and seeing so many of her loved ones struggle to fit in the mainstream world, she became a women’s advocate to help others from the FLDS church. She realized that she could make a difference through an educational social club, so she founded the Creekers Foundation support group. She does this in remembrance of her oldest son, who was kicked out of the FLDS church at the age of 15 and abandoned by his family and hometown, and all others who have suffered from the abuses caused by that way of life.
The Creekers Foundation offers educational workshops, events, and retreats through special programs they have created, such as The Girlfriend Club, which was created exclusively for FLDS and ex-FLDS women. The Creekers Foundation is designed to be a resource and support group to help build self-esteem, promote healing, and encourage members to become their best selves. There is an upcoming documentary about the work that the Creekers Foundation has done, as well as many other upcoming programs.
